IIST is a premier educational and research institute in the space science segment which is supported by the government of India and is located at Thiruvananthapuram in the state of Kerala. IIST was founded in 2007 by the Department of Space, Government of India and is approved by the Commission of the UGC and has got NAAC accreditation with CGPA 3.57 on a 4 point scale. The NIRF rankings 2023 are recently announced and IIST has been ranked 41 under the University category.
IIST provides various courses under the sub-branches of Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Physical Sciences, Earth and Space Sciences in Undergraduate, Post Graduate and Doctor of Philosophy levels. The BTech admissions are done through two stages of registrations followed by JEE Advance exam, interviews and finally selections. The JEE Advance exam dates for the 2024 academic year have been scheduled for May 9th 2024. Students selected in the GATE-2018 can apply for MTech programme in fields such as Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics, Thermal Engineering, Optical Engineering, Aerodynamics & Flight Mechanics. : MTech programmes – those candidates who have successfully cleared GATE are welcome to apply before 12th of June 2023. There is also an opportunity to apply in research programmes at PhD level for various specialisations.
